Spring Break Day Camp fun! In A Day in the Life, Summer Camp Posted April 1, 2016

Spring Break Day Camp fun!

Our very first Spring Break Day Camp ran from March 21st-25th, and it was a great success! We had 24 campers total between our Monday-Wednesday, Wednesday-Friday, and full week options. Just like Summer Day Camp, we offered transportation and early drop-off/late pick-up options, and we spent as much time outside as possible!

Throughout the week, our campers got to experience all kinds of camp activities. We went fishing, climbed the bouldering wall, slid down the Shady Chute, made arts and crafts projects, went boating, walked the labyrinth, toured the Eco Center, made s’mores, visited our farm and garden, created silly skits, packaged health kits at the Disaster Assistance Center, played field games, made projects like a solar still and a solar oven, and, of course, played tons and tons of GaGa ball!

The theme for the week was “Fun in the Son,” and in worship and Bible study we discussed Bible verses about light and darkness. We talked about how God fills us with a ‘light’ that can help us through even the darkest times, and how we can shine that light to others through our words, actions, and love.

Though we had a couple of days that were pretty windy and chilly for mid-March, we were hardly hindered at all by the weather throughout the week! Luckily we had an awesome crew of campers who didn’t let a little wind or 40-degree mornings get them down!

Our staff for the week included me, Ferncliff intern Kelsey, and two awesome volunteers counselors. Craig was a summer staff member in 2013, and Leah is a high school student who helps out with day camp in the summer. Craig and Leah volunteered to help us with the week, and they did an amazing job. We are so appreciative to have folks who love Ferncliff enough to volunteer during their vacation time!

Thank you to all the families who sent their kids to Spring Break Day Camp and helped make the week a great success! We appreciate your support and feedback in making our programming as best as it can be. Every new experience is a learning one, and we have a list of ideas to make Spring Break Day Camp even better in the future!
