Activities

Activities

Whether it’s racing across the bouldering wall, mountain biking around site, or testing your archery skills, there is so much that Ferncliff Camp & Conference Center can offer you and your group! Our trained staff can lead any of the activities offered below that fit your group’s interests or needs. Contact us today to learn more and get scheduled.

Bouldering
Our indoor bouldering wall, located in our Christian Activities Building (CAB), is perfect for all ages. With safety mats that are always required, everyone can test out their skills on the wall by simply attempting to make it across, racing the clock, or a variety of challenges.

Boating and Watercrafts
We offer Jon boats and canoeing on Ferncliff Lake. At Belden Pond, guests can choose from kayaks, corcl boats, and stand-up paddle boards. Participants must have a lifeguard and wear a personal flotation device at all times. Ferncliff can provide instruction upon request.

Stream Ecology

Creek Exploration & Stream Study
Get your feet wet and explore our spring-fed streams.  Use the kick nets to search for and identify critters, just have fun exploring, or add an educational component and sample the stream beds for aquatic organisms to determine the water quality of the creek.

Sand Volleyball
Enjoy a friendly match of sand volleyball at our lakeside court. Balls are provided.

Fishing
Try your hand at fishing in either of our two, stocked ponds. Poles and bait can be made available for your use.

Labyrinth
Ferncliff’s labyrinth is an eleven-circuit design, patterned after the labyrinth found in Chartres Cathedral in France. The labyrinth is an ancient spiritual tool, that your group can use for the purpose of prayer, meditation, reflection, and contemplation.

Shady Chute 2

Shady Chute
Give your group a thrill and take a trip up the Shady Shortcut Trail and slide down our very unique and fun 120 foot enclosed slide.  It’s like a water slide without the water!

Ferncliff Pool
Take a dip in Ferncliff’s pool to relax and cool-down! Our pool area also includes Tipping Buckets on our splash pad.  Lifeguards are required and can be provided upon request with adequate notice.

Blue Hole
You can also enjoy a cool-down in the Blue Hole. A short walk through the woods will have you spending the afternoon exploring the surrounding creek, catching crawdad’s, and a dip in the natural swimming hole.

Team Building and Challenge Course
Challenge your group to develop its cooperation, communication and decision-making skills through carefully chosen team initiative activities in our Low Ropes Field. These challenges are designed to encourage discussion on the value of community and the importance of working well with others.

Archery Skill Development
Aim for the bull’s eye and learn the basics of archery using our compound bows and other necessary equipment.  Each participant will receive proper safety instruction and the chance to practice shooting and improve their skills.

Slingshot Range
Check out our slingshot range for a chance to try a good ol’ classic activity. We provide safety goggles for all participants and often shoot beans with our slingshots as an environmentally friendly option.

Field Games

Field Games and/or Indoor games
This activity includes get-to-know-you games, tag games and silly games; come have a ball and play them all! Your group will be able to maximize its fun, because games are chosen according to the participant group’s age, size and interests.

Water Games
Have a blast getting wet while playing all sorts of fun water games!

Outdoors

Principles of Survival
Experience a variety of outdoor exploration activities that include basic principles for surviving a night in the forest, bird and mammal identification, shelter building, orienteering, and more.

hike

Nature Hike
Explore one of the Ferncliff’s hiking trails (of various intensities).  See wildlife and wildflowers as you walk through the woods, learning about the plants and animals that live here.

Farmstead Visit
Take an educational tour of our Farmstead! You’ll learn about the animals that live on site and how we take care of them as well as tour our Garden of Reuse. You’ll even get to help with the daily chores in our farm areas and learn about supporting local foodways, the benefits of growing your own organic produce, and the Creation care Ferncliff prioritizes.

Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) & Service Projects
Ferncliff is the only camp with a DAC, a facility that supports relief and recovery from natural and man-made disasters. Depending on local, national or international needs, there may be projects available or a service project at Ferncliff that would be appropriate to the age and interests of the group can be created.

Green Tour on “Leafy”
Take an excursion in our electric-powered Leafy vehicle around Ferncliff and learn about all the green programs we’ve implemented to care for Creation and all the ways we’ve worked to become a sustainable campus.

Frisbee Disc Golf
Spend an afternoon playing through our Frisbee Golf course! There are nine holes that span a large portion of the Ferncliff camp area and frisbee’s can be provided.
