Due to your generosity, renovations on the Program Activity Center (PAC) are officially underway. This is the first project to begin as part of the Connect, Inspire, Transform Capital Campaign.
This building served as Ferncliff’s dining hall for 75 years. Over the last decade, it has been useful for many different applications but has not been ideal really for any. It currently serves as our day camp hub in the summer and several of our faithful guest groups use it multiple times a year. Little has been done to update this building since the early 2000s.
Renovation plans include a large group meeting area by enclosing the porch, renovating the bathrooms, adding guest and professional laundry facilities, and creating much-needed storage areas. When completed the space will seat 120 conference attendees, giving us the ability to host larger groups.
“We are upgrading the guest experience and opportunities with the renovation. This will bring the PAC up to standards equal to that of the Brown Center,” said Bradley Doherty, Ferncliff’s chief operations officer.
Currently, the project is in the process of selecting bids. Construction is slated to begin mid-summer and the space will be ready for groups in early spring. Preparation for construction is already underway. Housekeeping, whose central office is located in the PAC, has been relocated and plans for groups who regularly use the PAC for events have been put in place so there is no schedule disruption. Inside, furniture is being finalized and finishes have been selected.
Additionally, updates to the building are being made to the infrastructure inside and out. Audio/visual equipment has been updated and fiber communications have been installed in the building to increase the internet speed. Site improvements are also being made.
Our commitment to sustainability is an important part of the renovation process. Materials, such as lighting fixtures and AC units currently in the PAC are being salvaged to use in the renovations as well as other parts of camp. Goods received through the Sharing the Goods program will also be used in the PAC. We are working with an energy engineer from CleaResult to evaluate the energy efficiency of the building and to evaluate the best high-efficiency lights, finishes, appliances, and plumbing fixtures.
We are thankful for your support. Because of you, Ferncliff is able to begin construction on the first project of our Transform Capital Campaign and create opportunities for more groups of children, youth, and adults a safe place to gather and experience life in fellowship while surrounded by nature.
