Jenny Higgins is from Arkansas, but she spent her summers during childhood at camp in southern Virginia! She attributes those summers to her fascination with the outdoors and always knew that one day, she would work in a place that combined the natural world with children. Jenny graduated from Western State College of Colorado with a Degree in Outdoor Recreation and Psychology. She began her career working as an Instructor for the North Carolina Outward Bound school, leading teenagers on 2-4 week expeditions. She taught her students leadership and teamwork through backpacking, climbing, and canoeing. After that position, she led a nomadic lifestyle, moving with the seasons. Jenny worked as a whitewater raft guide in North Carolina, a ski instructor in Big Sky, Montana, and taught environmental science on flat water canoe trips in the Florida Everglades. She also worked as a professor of experiential education at a community college and then spent a year in Australia working for Outward Bound and traveling on a work/holiday visa. In 2011, Jenny returned to her native home of Little Rock, Arkansas. Jenny has been a Little Rock Public School Substitute. She is trained in the Montessori method and has worked as an assistant and lead guide with preschool aged children. She loves her bloodhound Dixie, and her 5-gallon bucket garden. She dreams of one day owning a home and a yard with her husband, they were married last New Year’s Eve! Jenny also loves to run, stargaze, and listen to music.
