Hello Everyone,
My name is Kelsey Tom and I am one of the Intern’s at Ferncliff this year. I am from the cornhusker state Nebraska. Here is a joke for you: Q: What did the corn say when he got complimented? A: Aww, shucks! I guess you could say I am a little bit corny. I am 24 years old and have graduated from the University of Nebraska Kearney with my bachelors in Social work. What brought me to Ferncliff is my love of camp and my interest in learning all facets of camp ministry. I have been here at Ferncliff for a little over a month and I am in love with this place.
In my time here I have really enjoyed the low ropes course. I have had a chance to go through with a group of my peers and do the obstacles themselves and also help groups go through as a leader. What I love about low ropes is that an obstacle looks like it will be easy, but it is always more difficult than it appears. It takes working together as a group and relying on others to accomplish a task. I was able to feel my group grow stronger as we worked together on the course. It is interesting to see groups working on the low ropes from an outside perspective. The low ropes can be challenging, but when a group gets through an obstacle the growth is a really cool thing to see.
When thinking about the low ropes course I link it to my relationship with God. A relationship with God sounds like it is always easy, but being human I think I can do things on my own. This makes life more difficult, but when I rely and trust in God I can see growth within myself.
Whale watch is the name of the game and it is balance you will need! Get the platform balanced and sing I’m a Little Teapot. If you tip, start over again!
This is the spider web. You try and get all your group members through the web without touching it. Don’t wake up the spider!
I am looking forward to this year of growth here at Ferncliff. Once a month I will be posting updates to share my experiences with you!
Many Blessing,
Kelsey
