Scorchin' Squirrel Volunteers Information

Hello Squirrel Volunteers,

Thank you so much for helping with this event taking place Saturday, August 14th at Ferncliff.  We could not do this without you and I really appreciate each one of you.  We have just under 200 registered runners for this race.  Please arrive by 5:15 am to check in with your station captain.  Carpool if you can to help with the limited parking.

Here are the assignments as of today (8/13).  The station captains are listed first.

Start/Finish Line – Emily, Kendell (also emergency first aid on call), Rhonda, Billy, Drew

Registration – Kathi, Martha, Emily, Rachel, Rhea (6-8am)

Ice and Water Runner — Lynn

Parking and Registration should be finished by 7 am.  If you want to jump in and help somewhere else great.  If you want to go home then that’s fine too.  Or just hang out and cheer the runners on as they come in.

I (Joel G.) will be meeting with each station captain to give them instructions.  On the day of the race please check in with your station captain at the pool which is the start/finish line and where the race briefing will take place.

Please bring a face covering to wear when you are indoors or within 6 ft. of someone else.  And bring a water bottle so you can stay hydrated as it could be very warm.  Also, there is possible rain in the forecast so be prepared for that.

I’ve ordered extra shirts so hopefully each volunteer can find one just their size to snag after we give the shirts out to the runners.

Anyone that needs night before lodging let me now and I can make arrangements.

Parking will probably be our biggest challenge.  All volunteers (accept aid station volunteers) should park (as tightly as possible) in  front of the CAB building and along the north side of the road (it will be marked).  Then head up the short hill to the pool and meet with your station captain to get your instructions.  Between 5:45 and 7:00 am will be very busy for parking and registration.  Then most of the action will be at the aid station, finish line and later preparing food.

Fleet Feet and their volunteers are handling the Big Oak aid station.  All these volunteers should park by the aid station.

Each station captain will have a radio so we can communicate.

The race ends at 1 pm and the pool area closes at 2 pm.  Any runners still on the course after noon will sent on the most direct line to the finish.  Chris Davis will sweep the course at starting at noon.  Ferncliff has a pool reservation at 4 pm so we have to clean up and move on.

Thanks so much and if you have questions you can send them to me or your station captain.  My cell is 501-772-9707.

Thanks again!
