The Director of Donor Guidance is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and nurturing strong relationships with donors and acquiring individual gifts in the $1,000 to $10,000 giving range. The Director of Donor Guidance is a donor-facing position and requires strong interpersonal skills and a passion for Ferncliff. This position works under the direction of the Executive Director to ensure that ample unrestricted funds are generated to enhance and support the overall mission.
Compensation: Full-Time Exempt – $55,000-$65,000 – Full Benefits – Hybrid: In Person/Remote

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Executive Director, develop, implement, and manage Ferncliff’s mid-level donor program (individuals in the $1,000-$10,000 giving range), including establishing short-term and long-term strategies.
- Manage a pipeline of mid-level donors sustaining gifts and identify prospects for matching, momentum-building, and major gifts.
- Cultivate donor relationships by updating, stewarding, and asking donors to deepen their financial partnership with Ferncliff.
- Visit (in-person or virtual) with donors for cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship efforts.
- Analyze Ferncliff’s donor program to develop and execute strategies for acquiring, renewing, and upgrading donors and establishing monthly recurring gifts.
- Monitor the mid-level donor budgets and program performance, including oversight of income and expenses, and ensure accurate and timely record keeping and reporting.
- Assist in producing annual appeals, renewals, upgrade materials, and all other correspondence and stewardship specific to the annual fund.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing staff to ensure consistency with communications, messaging, and solicitations.
- Ensure that all donors and donor interactions are tracked accurately, and individual gifts are acknowledged promptly and appropriately.
- Assist in organizing donor cultivation events in coordination with the advancement team.
- Assist with other duties assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Experience building donor relationships through phone, written, and in-person meetings.
- Minimum of five years of experience in non-profit, foundation, or association fundraising, with a proven track record of achieving ambitious revenue targets.
- Take initiative and demonstrate flexibility in time and attitude to complete the job.
- Knowledge of techniques and best practices in annual giving, including benefit fulfillment and stewardship communications (email solicitations and social media strategies for online fundraising).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a team and to build and maintain positive relationships with all levels of the organization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effective presentation skills.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to apply strategic and creative thinking.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, maturity, tactfulness, good judgment, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Willingness and ability to travel when needed.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace applications and donor technology.
- Bachelor’s degree.
Some travel will be required, as well as some weekend hours, from time to time. This position is full-time, includes benefits, and can be on-site or remote at the discretion of the Executive Director. Salary is commensurate with experience.
