Bagworm Moth, Gray Tree Frog, Spotted Skunk, Gray Squirrel and Hummingbird are among the current participants at the Ferncliff Nature Preschool. Each child and teacher is given a ‘nature name’ and those names are used to educate, inform and empower the children about nature. Getting kids connected to creation is important as they will be the ones that will be taking care of the Earth in the future. That’s why it’s important to instill a deep connection to the environment at an early age. The school, with a current enrollment of 50 students, was established in 2016 as Arkansas’ first nature preschool. The school follows the forest kindergarten model where children spend 75% of their day outside and immersed in the natural environment that surrounds the school. In addition to the preschool, the Ferncliff Nature After-School program van, which was donated in a previous year by Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, picks up students from nearby Robinson, Chenal and Roberts Elementary schools. If you’d like to register a child or come for a tour of the school just let us know and we’d be glad to make arrangements.
