We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Nature Preschool Lead Teacher to join our vibrant team. Qualifications:

  • Experience working in outdoor settings with young children.
  • Background in early childhood education or a related field.

Work Schedule:

Full time, M-F, 7:30 – 3:30

Paid 12 months salary with a 194 day work calendar

Salary:

Based on Education and Experience

Starting Range: $22,000 – $36,000

Job Description

General Responsibility: Responsible for the overall growth and development of all children in the program.


Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Develops age appropriate curriculum that is aligned with the nature school mission and        nurtures the individual growth of all children in the program
  2. Prepares a developmentally appropriate classroom/outdoor environment that                encourages learning and growth
  3. Performs ongoing observations of student learning in order to better meet students’                needs
  4. Maintains ongoing and open communication with parents via email, newsletter, etc.
  5. Keeps parents up to date on student progress, is available for scheduled parent/teacher conferences
  6. Facilitates meetings with assistant staff to communicate expectations/collaborate
  7. Responsible for meeting quality and curriculum standards set by the state
  8. Maintains accurate records of student progress
  9. Attends all staff meetings and maintains 25 clock hours of PDR approved professional        development on and off site each year
  10. Plans parent involvement activities with Director
  11. Helps maintain facility and outdoor environments for safety and well-being of students
  12. Provides supervision and support to teaching assistants, substitutes, and volunteers by                sharing plans and pertinent student information
  13. Assists Director in providing orientation and training to all new staff, substitutes, and                volunteers
  14. Builds rapport with each student enrolled
  15. Stays up to date on current trends and research in early childhood and nature based                education

Relationships and Accountability

Directly accountable to the Nature School Director

Attend all staff meetings


Preferred Qualifications

BS in Early Childhood, Environmental Education, or Outdoor Recreation

  • Candidates with an EE or OR degree with at least 2 years of classroom teaching experience in an early childhood program

Understanding and commitment to the nature preschool model and alternative education

Knowledge of Licensing Requirements and other quality rating scales in Early Childhood

Demonstrates ability to work as part of a team

Must have strong written and verbal communication skills

Must be willing to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the program

 


Physical Capabilities:

-Must be able to lift 40lbs

-Be able to walk, squat/kneel, sit on floor, see, hear, speak with children to ensure  children’s  health and safety

-Must be able to be in the outdoor environment for the majority of the day in all weather
