As an ongoing project, the Over The Hill Gang and the Ferncliff Nature Preschool have partnered to support the Robinson PTO in the refurbishment of the Robinson Elementary School Outdoor Classroom. The school has had the space since the 1970s, but it has been unusable for students for many years. After a few family clean up days and a couple of brainstorm sessions, we created a plan to build and donate 7 heavy duty benches that could accommodate an entire class of 28 students, a small bridge to create access for students to cross a concrete culvert and access the trail, as well as work alongside a few other volunteers on some small beautification projects like a butterfly garden, a new podium, and an outdoor chalkboard. The benches were delivered last week and we are already hearing of teachers taking their classes outdoors! The work is not finished but we are so glad to have a part in connecting these students to the natural world!
