In the strange week between Christmas and New Years, five generous individuals stepped up to support the purchase of an Amazon truckload during a blitz end-of-year opportunity. On January 8th, a freight truck delivered 24 pallets of oversized goods to the Ferncliff warehouse for Sharing the Goods. There is always an element of the unknown when we receive Amazon shipments, but on this frigid Friday the contents warmed our hearts – DIAPERS.
Sharing the Goods is a program which redirects perfectly usable items away from landfills and into the hands of nonprofit agencies. Like a food bank of “stuff”, our shelves are stocked with a variety of items as they become available from our large retail partners. Member agencies can shop our highly-discounted inventory as often as they like; finding things to support the work they do each day. Sharing the Goods minimizes costs so that nonprofits can maximize their impact.
This is the first time we’ve been able to offer a large quantity and selection of diapers to our agencies. These – along with wipes, mixed boxes of items for a new baby, and a variety of other baby safety items – are of the items we will be able to keep in stock on a regular basis. Other goods in our health and wellness standard inventory include:
- Hair Trimmers
- Hair Styling Tools
- Weighted Blankets
- Massagers
- Heating Pads & Heated Blankets
- Personal-sized Fans & Heaters
Our rotating inventory of health and wellness items often includes fitness gear, home medical supplies, an assortment of specialty mattresses and cushions and so much more!
In addition to Home Health & Personal Wellness, Sharing the Goods has three other mission-driven areas. Gifts for Kids & Special Occasions includes a wide variety of items for all ages including toys that can be purchased by the case. Kitchen & Bathroom Renovations can be done on a budget using reclaimed sinks, faucets, flooring and lighting from Kohler and Martha Stewart. And finally, our Home Sweet Home project provides both essential and decorative household items to individuals and families who are transitioning into housing or recovering from a disaster.
Agencies who sign up as Sustaining Members ($250/year) receive a variety of perks including $600 credit to use on goods and exclusive access to shop from shelves of usable items which fall outside of our four main mission areas.
If you know of an agency who would benefit from diapers or any of the items in our warehouse, please share the word about Sharing the Goods!
